A plaid changes entirely with its ground, and Gold pushes this one warm. The soft hand of the cotton counts for more on a short sleeve than on any other shirt, since there is no cuff and no layer between cloth and skin. Snaps run the placket from top to bottom. The hem is straight rather than curved, and a straight hem is an instruction rather than a detail: it is drawn to be left out.
Warm plaid does well against something dark and better against very little at all. Leave the western shirt untucked, keep whatever is under it plain, and let the pattern be the only thing making a claim. Late summer, the end of the day, any place where the light is already turning gold.
