The base colour is the reason the shirt works. Flowers on a bright ground are a declaration few people want to make; on a muted, dusty ground the same flowers become something to put on for a normal Tuesday. Nothing about the western construction changes to accommodate them, snaps instead of buttons and a hem cut level for untucked wear, so the print lands inside a familiar silhouette rather than on a garment that is strange in two ways at once.
